Whether you use your Air Conditioner a lot or not, it is important to keep it clean to run efficiently and work at peak performance. In this article, CLIMATECH has many tips and tricks on how you can clean your AC and prolong its life.
Your very first step, of course, would be to switch off the AC, which can be done by the remote, but we recommend your turn off the switch to which your AC is connected.
Cleaning The Air Filters
First of all, begin with removing and cleaning the air filters. You can remove the air conditioner’s filter by lifting it up and out of its slot, or you can take a screwdriver to release it from its mounting bracket. Either way, place your new filter in place, then replace the old one with care so that none of it falls into crevices in your unit, which may cause harm to the unit.
Clean your air filter at regular intervals. Cleaning the filter helps to keep it from becoming clogged, which can cause performance issues and loss of efficiency.
Replace your air filter every three months for best results, but you may need to replace it more continuously if you live in an area with high pollen counts or other airborne irritants.
Clean Top Grill of The AC
The top grille is the part of your AC that sits on top of your unit. It’s also where dust, dirt, and debris are most likely to accumulate. To clean this area thoroughly, use a vacuum or brush attachment to remove any loose debris. Once you’ve cleared away any loose debris, use a damp microfiber cloth or something of the same kind, and wipe down the entire surface of this area until no moisture remains after wiping it dry.
Suppose you have extra time available before using your AC again. In that case, we recommend drying out both sides of your grilles with another dry microfiber cloth so they can be put back into place without rusting against each other again.
Clean The Fins of AC with a Fin Comb
If you have an older model AC, the fins are likely to be dusty and dirty. If this is the case, use a fin comb to clean them. The fin comb is shaped like a small toothbrush and has fine teeth that remove dirt from the surface of your air conditioner’s fins. They are easy to find and very cheap, so there is no reason not to own them.
Here is how to use a fin comb:
First of all, find an open area where there are no obstructions, such as walls or furniture nearby. You then need to have some water on hand so you can wash off any stray dust or dirt before using your fin comb. Your next step would be to put one hand on top of each side of your AC while holding onto its metal frame with another hand. Then use one end of your fin comb against each side to wipe away excess dust, and you repeat this process until they sparkle.
Clean the Air Conditioner Drip Pans
Cleaning drip pans is one of the most important steps you can take to keep your air conditioner running smoothly. Drip pans collect dirt and debris that can build up over time, causing your AC unit to run harder than it should and leaving you with a less efficient system.
This is how you can clean these pans:
Use warm water mixed with dish soap to scrub the inside of each drip pan. You may have to use some strength in order for them to come clean, and do not worry if there is some construction-grade grime lingering on them. You will get there eventually.
When scrubbing is done, rinse thoroughly before placing them back on top of your air conditioner unit. After you are done, they should look like new when they’re dry again.
Clean The Coils
You can clean the coils of your AC with a vacuum with a brush attachment. The brush will break up and loosen any dirt or debris that has accumulated on the coils, making it easier for you to get rid of them.
You may also want to use a shop vac instead of your regular vacuum cleaner if you want more thorough cleaning power, but remember that this method requires additional time and effort since it’s not as easy as using cleaning solutions.
Clean Air Conditioner’s Fan Motor
The easiest way to clean out debris from inside a fan motor is by using compressed air. However, cleaning with water alone won’t work because dust particles don’t become compacted when wet as compared to dry. To avoid damaging your AC unit’s housing or blades, you need to submerge all components in an open container filled with a bleach solution before proceeding further.
CLIMATECH is a pioneer in AC servicing, and we hope you have learned how to clean an air conditioner.
Clean your air conditioner regularly so that it will run efficiently and keep you cool during the hot summer months.
Cleaning the filter and fins is an excellent way to eliminate dirt, dust, pollen, insects, and other debris that may be hanging around in your unit’s system. You can also use this time to clean out any debris that may have found its way into cracks or crevices in case they block other parts of your AC.
Another important thing to do before starting up again after winterizing is wiping down all surfaces with a damp cloth where condensation can build up over time due to humidity levels outside being higher than normal levels inside due, again, to warmer temperatures outdoors.
